METHODS FOR REMOVING GUM FROM CONCRETE

The best methods of removing chewing gum from concrete depends on the gum’s age and the level of penetration into the concrete surface. If the gum was left recently and it hasn’t penetrated the surface yet, we might be able to get it off by covering it with ice until it freezes, then scraping the gum off with a putty knife.

The ice forces the gum to freeze into a more forgiving consistency compared to a gooey and stringy glob. Once the gum is frozen, we slide a metal putty knife or scraper right under the gum. After that we slide the scraper very slowly under the gum and the entire piece should peel right off of the concrete.

The above method is only possible with brand new gum.

When we remove chewing gum that is already black, or is smashed deep down into the concrete surface, we use a hot water pressure washer with the heat turned up to 200 Degrees to melt the gum. For this type of gum removal service, we do not use high pressure because that will sometimes damage the surface of the concrete!

Our pressure washers never uses more pressure than needed to safely clean commercial concrete. These types of surfaces can be damaged much easier than most people think, especially if they’re only 1-2 years old. Concrete can take up to 100 years to cure. That is why we always use hot water and the least amount of pressure possible for our professional gum removal service.
